Long time no see! Happy Easter fashion bunnies! I have exciting news so keep reading…
I recently did some bi-annual spring-cleaning and thought it a shame that so many of my clothes barely made their way to the front of my closet (think designer and vintage beauties). So here you go, say hello to my own little Spring Clean Fashion Sale on the FOTM Facebook Page.
If 50% to 90% off brands such as Banana Republic, FCUK, Errol Arendz, Country Road and Ted Baker isn’t tempting enough have a look at a few of the items below.
Happy shopping! xx
New York living is a thrill I can’t describe. Treading the SoHo streets with Nicky Hilton and the like, attending swanky parties, shopping up a storm on 5th Avenue and having the world at your manicured fingertips.
There really are no words. Interning at a prestigious magazine in the Big Apple is one of the toughest yet amazing things one can experience. I have met some of the most influential and inspiring individuals in fashion, made friends from across the globe and have learnt a great deal.
Reflecting on my first month leaves me totally gobsmacked. I have the invaluable opportunity of living my dream and I am embracing every opportunity. I am that girl I was in awe of for so many years (job and city wise).
My internship involves working with the fashion assistant in the closet, and no, I don’t do coffee runs or walk dogs ever (even though the editor-in-chief has the cutest Shar Pei in town named Mia who knows how to rock a LV collar). I check designer samples in and send them out (some straight off the runway worn by the Karlie’s and Kate’s of the world), set up for fashion shoots, do research, assist editors…. you name it.
Everyone keeps asking me if it’s like The Devil Wears Prada. Yes, in a sense it is (minus most of the glamour). The fashion world is a cutthroat one and if you don’t have the passion for it you should run a mile in the opposite direction and never look back. But if, like me, you can’t see yourself doing anything else and you work hard and I mean really, really hard (until your whole body physically aches and you are mentally exhausted), the editors genuinely notice, show their appreciation and it pays off.
I may not get paid in dollars (no, not even the worthless Zim kind), but I am paid in love and freebies (think sunnies, watches, clothes, jewels, music, beauty treats and gift cards). But no one can ever take away what I am gaining from this experience and that is what makes the sweat, tears, smiles and laughs all totally worthwhile.
I am not your typical tourist, sure I do sightseeing (with a backpack and flats no less), but my favourite part of travelling is definitely submerging myself in the native culture. Thanks to my cousin (he is currently studying Mandarin at the Beijing Language and Culture University), I was informed of some amazing local haunts in Beijing. Knowing that I love all things creative, he suggested that I head to 798 Art Zone.
Seen as a Soho-esque area, the Art District is filled with character, flawlessly combining contemporary art, architecture and culture. A vast variety of galleries, boutiques and cafes make it any hipster’s delight.
In the last month I made my way to Asia not once, but twice. Beijing definitely made me melt (pun intended). I did tons of sightseeing (more on that later), but this needs to be said: The Great Wall of China is pretty damn magnificent. Looking out over the countryside and seeing it carry on for miles on end… total bliss and beyond awe-inspiring!
It seems that saying Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ has been covered by everyone (and her mother) would be putting it mildly. I mean, politicians, boy bands and comedians are all jumping aboard- and of course the fashion pack aren’t holding back either.
Here’s a peek at my top three, which one deserves the crown?
Fashion Police
Joan Rivers, Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, George Kotsiopoulos and a bunch of their fff’s (aka fabulous famous friends) want you to call them- maybe.
Rebecca Minkoff and Co.
Designer Rebecca Minkoff, the gorgeous Hilary Rhoda and my favourite witty, quirky blogger The Man Repeller having fun while getting ready for the 2012 CFDA Awards.
Abercrombie Hotties
So of course a little bit of man candy never hurt anyone. Abercrombie & Fitch models from across the globe ask you to be their baby. Is it a cheesefest? Definitely. But did i mention they are shirtless and ripped as shit? You’re welcome.
Last November I had the privilege of meeting some of the most remarkable women in the world of glossies- the ladies behind the teen style bible that is Teen Vogue.
As an avid reader of the magazine I cannot express on any level how amazing it was to spend an afternoon in New York with these impeccably dressed, designer clad individuals that have inspired me to dream of (and pursue) a career in fashion.
These women are everything! Did you hear me? Everything.
Eva Chen (Beauty Director)
Eva has been a favourite of mine for quite some time. She has shared numerous fashion and beauty tips with me via Twitter and even gave me some much needed shopping pointers for my NYC trips. She is kind beyond words and über chic. I mean, any girl who loves Prabal Gurung, Thakoon, Proenza Schouler and Isabel Marant is near and dear to my heart. Ps. Did I mention her Tumblr? One word. Amazing.
Gloria Baume (Fashion Director)
Gloria is such a down-to-earth individual, yet a creative genius. I adore her colourful and fun style and think she pulls it off perfectly. She definitely isn’t scared to mix-and-match or break rules and her quirky look reflects her cool personality.
Jane Keltner De Valle (Fashion News Director)
Jane’s style oozes sophistication and femininity. I love how she won’t be caught dead in a pant and rather opts for an hourglass silhouette by nipping in her waist with a belt or high-waisted skirt. Oh and do yourself a favour and head over to The Coveteur (probably the most lust worthy site ever) and have a peek at her wardrobe (eeeeeek that shoe collection will leave you green with envy).
Xo
I am head-over-heels for mint outfits! Fresh, feminine and fabulously fashionable.
